Spoonflower Tutorial: How to create and sell your own wallpaper

Updated: Mar 19

Have you ever dreamed of seeing your own designs on wallpaper? With Spoonflower, you can turn that dream into reality — and even make money doing it! In this guide, I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of creating and selling custom wallpaper designs on Spoonflower.

Check out the tutorial video, or follow the steps below to get started.

Step 1: Create a Spoonflower Account

First things first, head over to Spoonflower and create a free account. This gives you access to their design tools, marketplace, and the ability to start selling your creations right away.

Step 2: Choose or Create Your Design

Next, it’s time to pick your design. You have two options:

  • Create Your Own: Use a graphic design tool like Canva, Procreate, or Adobe Illustrator to craft a unique wallpaper pattern. Save your design as a PNG or JPG file.

  • Use Existing Art: Already have digital artwork or patterns you love? Perfect! You can upload those directly.

Pro Tip: Keep in mind that wallpaper designs look best when they repeat seamlessly. If you need help creating a repeating pattern, check out my YouTube channel here.

Step 3: Upload Your Design

Once your design is ready, log into Spoonflower and click the "Upload" button on the homepage. Select your file, add a title, and write a short description with relevant keywords to help buyers discover your wallpaper.

Step 4: Adjust the Scale and Preview

After uploading, you’ll see a preview of your wallpaper. Spoonflower allows you to adjust the scale and tiling options to ensure your design looks just right. Take your time with this step — what looks good on screen will look even better on a wall!

Step 5: Choose Your Wallpaper Type

Spoonflower offers several types of wallpaper, including peel-and-stick (great for renters) and traditional pasted wallpaper. Pick the option that best suits your design and target market.

Step 6: Set Your Price and Publish

Ready to start selling? Set your design for sale in the marketplace, and choose your markup. Spoonflower handles the printing, shipping, and customer service, while you collect royalties on every sale. How cool is that?

Step 7: Promote Your Wallpaper and Make Sales

Now that your wallpaper is live, it’s time to spread the word! Share your Spoonflower shop on social media, Pinterest, and with your email list.
